Evaluating the Rough Cut

Overall, I think the rough cut was pretty decent. The shots were filmed really well and the sequence in which they went in really suited the theme. I loved the variety of different shots included but the jump cuts could have happened quicker to create more suspense.

Ways to improve:

  • Since our inspiration came from the film Se7en, we would like to make it similar to that but soe far it's very far from it. To make it more similar we could use a variety of multiple shots and overlaying ones too just to make it more upbeat and thriller like.
  • Some scenes seem to be all over the place so this could be fixed by us making sure that every scene is in the right place and makes sense.
  • More meaning could've been portrayed by the rose so in a way we could involve the object more, either filming more shots of the rose or by making sure that the message is portrayed to the audience correctly.
  • Music will completely change the atmosphere and enhance the title sequence so making sure we pick the right track will be a game changer.

Title sequence rough cut

Evidence of editing of first rough cut.

First we had to create gradient overlays in photoshop to get the right effect on the clips.

Then we cut all the clips and placed them in the right order

Then we applied the previously made overlays to the clips. with slight varieties of brightness and positioning.

Finally, we rendered and exported the video.

Evidence of filming

Before filming, we had to create and collect our props and also pick our location. We filmed on three days, it took us two lessons to finish getting together our mise-en-scene, creating our link chart and filling in the diary. Our filming days were very busy even though we were only located in one room, on the last day of filming we went out to film our establishing shot of the front of a building.
