Making my very first prelim film was exciting but challenging at the same time! Overall, it was a great experience and i can't wait to start on more!
The skills that i was particularly good at were planning and editing. When i first heard the task, i almost instantly had a vision of the whole prelim in my head so when it was time to plan it out on paper it wasn't very difficult although drawing out every single shot got a bit time consuming and when you're not Picasso your illustrations look like they've been drawn by a 5 year old. Having my own YouTube channel, I've previously spent hours on end editing so I was very comfortable taking part in the editing. Although learning how to use a different editing software than i'm used to was challenging but once i got used to it it was great. I didn't find any part of the prelim making extremely challenging because i am used to all aspects of production so it was kind of like second nature.
The whole film came together pretty good and was very well edited. The only unsuccessful part about it was the acting, i think the acting could've probably been more believable and well done but for our first prelim I wouldn't say it was that bad. If i were to complete the project again, i would maybe add a backing track to the dentist office scene to give it a more realistic feel.
Overall, I've learnt that story boarding and shot-lists are very important so that you know where you're at during production and what needs to be done next. They also helped in order for us to not forget to shoot any scenes and they were a huge part of the great outcome.
